A fine Macedon pair
2025 Kyneton Ridge Riesling and ‘Skipping Rabbit’ Pinot Noir
I last tasted these when they were just bottled in January; now both are much more integrated and aromatic. Showing the class that got winemakers Patrick Wood and Greta Darling-Filby into Top 50 Finalists in Young Gun of Wine Awards 2026.
2025 Kyneton Ridge Riesling – lemon thyme, lemon barley, white magnolia on the nose; follow on the palate with zippy grapefruit and crisp green apple, white nectarine, kiwi skin, sancho pepper, granitic minerality, and a slippery, glycerol texture. 12% Alc./Vol. Tasted 19 Jun, Fruit Day.
2025 Kyneton Ridge ‘Skipping Rabbit’ Pinot Noir – violets, cherry pie, autumn leaves, and vanilla pod on the nose; follow on the palate with black cherry, red plum, rhubarb, forest floor, five spice, white pepper, dried thyme. A nice acid line and great persistence. 12% Alc./Vol. Tasted 18 Jun, Leaf Day.
Kyneton Ridge sits at 550m on volcanic soils of Pyalong granite, weathered to granitic sandy soils over felspar clay loams; on the border between cold alpine and maritime influences from the south, moderated by the warmer continental influence from the north. Planted in 1997, Angela and Andrew Wood purchased the estate in 2019. Last year, it became the first certified member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia in the Macedon Ranges wine region.
